A kit has been released in Japan that makes it easy to pay for TV channels that require prepayment for viewing programs and films.
When purchasing LCD TVs with high definition images, the buyer receives a special remote control in the kit. In addition to the standard functions of changing channels and adjusting the volume, the remote control is equipped with an electronic bank card reader based on RFID technology.
Typically in Japan, in order for a family to order a program that requires prepayment, they must enter a credit card number on the remote control, entering all the digits in sequence. With the new TV set, consumers simply swipe their RFID-equipped credit card or mobile phone over the remote control at the appropriate point during the ordering process on the TV screen.
In seconds, electronic money stored in the person's personal bank account or mobile phone account (common in Japan) will be used to pay for the program.
Less time waiting, more time watching if your TV is equipped with RFID.
