World-famous brand Volkswagen uses RFID technology in its German factories to track inventory on large steel presses used to make cars, including the popular Volkswagen Passat, according to Materials Handling World.

The factory produces and ships 20,000 parts daily, starting with large steel coils that are cut into plates and then placed on pallets with RFID transmitters attached. In addition, radio frequency technology allows for precise tracking of the return process step by step right down to the coil.

Supplied by Lueze electronic, the RFID transmitters are housed in special plastic housings to reduce interference from the pressing system, which creates a powerful magnetic field that can affect the operation of RFID systems.

Cranes equipped with a positioning system allow for precise determination of horizontal and vertical positions on shelves.
