Once a version of Ubuntu reaches "end of life," it will not receive any further updates, including critical security updates. We highly recommend that you update your system to the latest version of Ubuntu as soon as possible.
This command will show you the exact status of your system:
$ Ubuntu-support-status
Ubuntu announces "end of life" for server and computer
Standard versions of Ubuntu are supported for 9 months, while LTS (Long Term Support) releases of Ubuntu are supported for five years. During this time, security improvements and other critical updates are made. Therefore, to always benefit from official Ubuntu support, an upgrade is definitely necessary. Ubuntu's support is as follows:

Kernel End of Life
Ubuntu LTS also provides newer kernel versions and X support for existing Ubuntu LTS releases. These can be installed manually or automatically shipped for installations from 12.04.2 / 14.04.2 and later. These newer optimizations are targeted at desktops and servers, and the use of cloud or virtual images is even recommended. The Ubuntu kernel support lifecycle is as follows:

Ubuntu announces OpenStack end of life
Canonical’s Ubuntu Cloud archive allows users to install newer Ubuntu OpenStack releases on Ubuntu Server, which become available even after the next Ubuntu LTS release. Ubuntu OpenStack support is as follows:
Ubuntu LTS support; OpenStack configuration support; Extended user support.
