RFID technology is gaining popularity worldwide.

According to a survey conducted by the Institute for Informatics and Society (IIG) in Freiburg, Germany, only one in seven German companies see no benefit from implementing RFID.

Of the companies surveyed by IIG across various industries, 38.5% reported already using radio-frequency identification (RFID) systems, and 17.0% plan to implement them within the next two years. 29.8% of companies do not yet use RFID but believe that its use could be beneficial. Only 14.7% of surveyed companies see no benefit in using RFID technology.

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) systems are in demand in logistics, warehouses, wholesale and retail trade, personal identification systems, inventory control, and business process management at enterprises. This technology allows for increased transparency of all logistics operations, minimization of warehouse costs, and enhancement of security for valuable cargo and documents.

According to the research company Gartner Inc., in 2007, sales in the RFID sector worldwide amounted to $917.3 million, and in 2008, growth to $1.2 billion was expected. In 2007, radio frequency identification systems were primarily used in the manufacturing industry (21%), government and international management (20%), transportation (20%), and retail (14%), reports Gartner Inc.
