Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced before the presentation of the new Nexus smartphones that the number of users of the company's mobile operating system has reached 1.4 billion people.

According to the head of the corporation, the popularity of the mobile platform is due to the fact that Google has always focused on the release of large-scale and open ecosystems. The growth in the number of Android users is impressive, because just a few months ago at the Google I/O conference the company reported a billion active users.

This fact is confirmed by the fact that some applications in Google Play have been installed more than a billion times, while outside the official statistics there are a lot of users in China, where the company's services are banned, and local mobile electronics manufacturers, such as Xiaomi and Meizu, use their own ecosystems.

Continuing to talk about the number of users, Google representatives reported 20 million Chromecast devices sold, and to top it all off, Sundar Pichai noted that the company is confidently moving towards reaching the mark of two billion Android users.
