Memory in Android boxes – what types there are and how much is needed

The first smart set-top boxes were developed solely to give older TV models the capabilities of "fancy" TV receivers. But over time, they acquired much greater functionality, and today this small box hides a whole world of information and entertainment. Therefore, when choosing an Android box, buyers are primarily interested in the amount of permanent memory. The relevance of the question of the amount of RAM or NAND is explained by the fact that it is used to store information. And it would be natural to think that the larger its capacity, the better the set-top box.

Should you choose smart boxes based on memory size?

In fact, the purpose of NAND memory is to store not only information, but also OS system files. And if you purchase a set-top box with 8 GB, then 4 of them will be occupied by the operating system. However, this will not in any way affect the functionality of your box, since when watching videos online, the entire load falls on the RAM. It, in turn, has a significantly larger reserve for rewriting data and 1-2 gigabytes are enough to watch videos, chat on social networks and even play games.

Only those who prefer heavy-duty games and want to get high-quality images should consider purchasing a console with 3 gigabytes of memory.
