After purchasing an ANDROID TV BOX or a TV with Android SMART TV, how do you access your Kodi (formerly XBMC) content on it? We'll walk you through the process.

Google hit the nail on the head with its Chromecast devices and is now repeating that success with Android TV, but now it has to compete with the new Apple TV devices.

Compatible with the Google Play Store and the ability to act like a Chromecast, Android TV is great for streaming. But what if all your media is stored on your local computer or a removable drive and you want to access it through Kodi? Luckily, Android TV makes this possible.

Installing Kodi on Android TV

There are two ways to stream content from Kodi to Android TV. One way is to use its Chromecast functionality and stream Kodi using Chromecast. However, there is a much easier way to do this, we recommend that you don’t even waste your time trying to mess around with Chromecast.

Installing Kodi the incredibly easy way:

1. Download the Kodi app on your Android SMART TV.
2. Set up the Kodi app to see the contents of files stored online.
3. Done.

Installing Kodi the long, boring way:

If for some reason you can't download Kodi from the Google Play Store, here's another way to install it on your Android TV Box.

1. Go to "Settings" on your Android TV box and select "Security and restrictions".
2. Enable "Unknown sources" to install apps outside the Google Play Store.
3. Download Kodi for Android from Kodi download page, depending on your hardware you need to select either the ARM or x86 version.
4. Copy the downloaded .apk file to Google Drive or a USB drive and connect it to your Android TV.
5. Navigate to where you saved the .apk file using ES File Explorer or any other application file manager.
6. You will be prompted to open the .apk file, if you want to install Kodi, select "Install".
7. After the file finishes transferring across your device, you will be prompted again if you want to install Kodi. Select "Install".
8. Kodi will install and work the same as if it were downloaded from the Google Play Store.
9. Configure Kodi so you can see the contents of files stored online.
10. Done.
