The market results included economic growth with some slowdown towards the end of the year, the development of professional shopping center projects, the activation of local and chain operators, and an increase in rental rates.
During 2011, five shopping centers with a total leasable area of 98,890 sq. m were opened in Kyiv. Currently, nine new shopping centers with a total leasable area of 261,646 sq. m are under construction, the opening of which is scheduled for 2012. However, it is most likely that only six properties with a total leasable area of 205,646 sq. m will be opened on schedule, which will increase the total market supply to 1 million sq. m. m.
In the regions of Ukraine, the shopping center market also developed quite quickly; during 2011, 17 new facilities were opened, the total area of which exceeded 200 thousand square meters.
