Every year, Apple and Google release a list of the best apps of the year. To do this, the companies select from their respective stores a list of apps not only with the most downloads, but also those that have been influential this year, and new apps that have made a splash.
Each such exclusive list includes apps that have both iOS and Android versions. But that doesn't mean Apple and Google always agree on which ones are the best.
This year, the companies diverged from top to bottom. Apple put Periscope at the top of the list, including Instagram, while Google excluded them entirely but included Twitter.
In fact, there are only three apps from those lists that both Google and Apple named among the best of 2015. Here are the standouts, which received the seal of approval from both giants:
1. Robinhood
Robinhood is an app built around one promise: commission-free stock trading. The app makes trading cheaper, intuitive, and mobile-friendly. The beautiful interface also won an Apple Design Award.
