According to a survey conducted by the Institute for Informatics and Society (IIG) in Freiburg (Germany), only one in seven German companies do not see any benefits from implementing RFID.
Of the surveyed IIG companies from various sectors of the economy, 38.5% reported that they already use radio frequency identification (RFID) systems, 17.0% plan to implement them within the next two years. At 29.8% of enterprises, RFID is not yet used, but they believe its application could be beneficial. And only 14.7% of the surveyed companies see no point in using RFID technologies.
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems are in demand in logistics, warehouses, wholesale and retail trade, personal identification systems, inventory management, and enterprise operational management. This technology allows for increased transparency of all logistics operations, minimized warehouse costs, and enhanced security of valuable goods and documents.
According to the research company Gartner Inc., in 2007 the sales volume in the RFID sector worldwide amounted to $917.3 million, and in 2008 growth to $1.2 billion was expected. In 2007, radio frequency identification systems were mainly used in manufacturing (21%), government and international administration (20%), transportation (20%), and retail (14%), reports Gartner Inc.
