Dundee Precious Metals (DPM) has installed a Wi-Fi RFID solution for the Chelopech mines in Bulgaria called AeroScout. This solution will be used to track people, equipment, and machinery to improve worker productivity and safety both above and below ground.
As part of the initial program rollout, DPM deployed more than 1,000 RFID tags. The tags were attached to workers' clothing and to the surfaces of vehicles and equipment, transmitting vital information over a Wi-Fi network. The information is also transmitted to specialized AeroScout software, thereby providing DPM with data on the current location of workers and devices.
Previously, the company tracked miners by logging everyone entering and leaving the mine. Now this process is fully automated, allowing control room personnel to quickly and accurately locate a miner.
In the past, workers going underground also used a radio system to relay information about their movements. But now, the DPM can see the location of their machines, which helps the control room more effectively identify and resolve problems and respond more quickly in emergency situations.
