One interlocutor writes a message in their language and sends it via NFC (Near Field Communication), and it arrives in the recipient's language. To transfer text, the phones must touch each other. This is not the first project aimed at breaking down the language barrier between interlocutors. There are also solutions based on text translation, although simultaneous voice translation appears more promising. This is the first time Nokia has used such a simple communication method and such extensive capabilities using basic existing solutions, in particular, NFC.
Nokia engineers believe that this is just the beginning. The official blog post says that this will fundamentally change the way people communicate in general. The developers assume that by 2015, people will no longer need to speak out loud at work. And people from different countries will be able to work in the same department, even without knowing each other's languages.
