MicrosoftToday, a large part of the population of not only Ukraine, but also other countries uses pirated software. As a result, free operating systems have begun to develop everywhere. One of the most popular operating systems today is MS Windows from Microsoft.

Realizing that the use of unauthorized versions of OS from Microsoft is growing, the company began to actively protect the legality of using its programs. Along with this, it attracted government agencies from various countries for support.

A striking example of the active actions of Microsoft was the high-profile "case" with test purchases in retail stores selling household appliances and electronics. Retailers were accused of illegally installing unlicensed copies of Microsoft Windows XP Professional on computers they sold.

According to the BSA Software Manufacturers Association, the level of unlicensed software use in Ukraine reached 83% in 2007. Retailers, in turn, promised to change the situation, gradually increasing buyers' interest in open source software.

The disadvantages of such open source software are obvious. For example, Linux has a minimum of necessary programs and a lot of "software", but lacks what is really necessary. There is also a certain complexity of configuration and administration, in addition, equipment manufacturers do not always write drivers for Linux.

The same can be said about the Macintosh operating system (Mac OS). This OS has become popular in the West due to a successful marketing strategy, as well as various promotions held by Apple.

Representatives of Microsoft in pre-crisis times were quite lenient about the widespread use of unlicensed software, and large corporations received preferential licensing terms. Since the crisis is preparing a new surge, therefore, it is very likely that Microsoft will tighten its policy on the use of pirated software.
