Apple Patents Its Touchscreen as an RFID Reader
Apple, a world-renowned corporation that produces personal and tablet computers, audio players, phones, and software, has patented a method for implementing RFID functions into the touchscreens of its devices, reports Apple Insider.

Patent  "Touchscreen RFID Reader" details how a device's touchpad can be modified into a single RFID circuit, allowing the screen to act as an RFID transmitter. According to Apple, This method eliminates the need for a RFID antenna, which takes up additional space.


Apple has been steadily accumulatingNFC and RFID patents over the past few years, speculating that an NFC-based iPhone is only a matter of time. These patents include mobile phone fare collection, various types of payments, RFID tag reading, Wi-Fi wireless internet connectivity, and more.
