According to Google, the information is erroneous, and the software does not send it data on the position of the gas pedal, oil temperature, and coolant temperature. "Users can opt in to providing Android Auto with information that is useful for autonomous driving mode and for more accurate navigation," the official statement says.
Indeed, each time a user connects a new smartphone to the system, Android Auto asks whether they want to send data to Google, and, obviously, they have the opportunity to refuse.
Google also described in detail how the information provided to the system is used. For example, car GPS data provided to a smartphone can be more accurate and also help save battery power of the mobile device. Knowing whether the car is moving or parked allows the system to prompt the keyboard at appropriate moments or interact with the user through voice commands and responses. Android Auto also uses headlights to determine the time of day and adapt its interface to dark or light conditions.
The search giant also assures that all this data is protected by the Android permissions model - the user is always informed about attempts to provide data to any third-party application, and can also choose which applications they trust.
Finally, Google reminded that it is already collaborating with 35 different car manufacturers using Android Auto in their cars. Among them are Porsche's "sisters" - Volkswagen and Audi.
