What is HDMI and where is it used?

High Definition Multimedia Interface is a high-frequency multimedia interface. You come across it every time you need to connect a monitor or TV to your computer. Physically, HDMI is an unremarkable cable. But unlike conventional wires, it transmits information to the device in the form of uncompressed digital data. Moreover, its quality is significantly higher than that of devices with an analog signal.

What is special about this cable?

      Multimedia interface is mainly used for video transmission. But this is not its only capability. HDMI cable is perfect for transmitting:

  • 4K video;
  • audio;
  • surround sound.

     Its appearance allowed manufacturers to produce TVs and monitors with built-in speaker systems. And to transmit sound, you no longer need to use separate cables. After all, HDMI copes with this task perfectly.

     This cable can also transmit control data or commands, causing the TV to wake up when the Xbox is turned on. Another feature is its low price, making HDMI accessible to everyone.
