The new lane is intended for vehicles carrying passengers who use RFID-documents, such as a U.S. Passport Card, a SENTRI card, the new Legal Permanent Resident “green card”, and the new Border Crossing Card.

"Ready Lane" can also be used by several passengers in the same car, even if they have different types of RFID-documents. The implementation of RFID scanning will allow law enforcement agencies to speed up the process of identity verification, says Chris Maston, co-director of Customs and Border Protection in San Diego.

CBP has also opened several "Ready Lane" checkpoints in other cities and plans to increase the number of such checkpoints in the future.
