Photo 1 No more paper or barcode scanners will be used at Australian ski resorts. Starting this winter season, two of the most popular ski resorts, Thredbo and Perisher, will replace their previously used "last century" equipment with more advanced and modern RFID technology, reports iTnews.

It is planned to initially equip 29 ski lifts at the Perisher resort with RFID portals along with 15 mobile scanners and RFID-tags. With RFID, the recreation center staff will be able to accurately determine how many people are skiing and where exactly.

Together with equipment from Skidata and Resort Technology Partners (RTP), the total cost of the project was $1.8 million, including two new servers and an additional 500 meters of cable.

The new system will allow better monitoring of skiers in order to come to their aid at any time, if necessary. A new web portal will also be opened, which will allow visitors to track their personal history of slopes and share it with their family and friends.
