IFA 2016 was, as always, packed. It's getting bigger and bigger every year. There was a noticeable increase in both the number of visitors and the exhibition grounds. In 2016, IFA introduced new exhibition spaces, the launch of IFA Global Markets, and a joint IFA and ISTAF weekend took place. At IFA TecWatch The visions of scientists, start-ups, robots and everything related to virtual reality were represented.
IFA Global Markets: B2B novelty
To be even closer to advanced technology and new products available to visitors, IFA opened a new additional area outside the ExpoCenter City exhibition grounds for the first time this year - at the Berlin train station. IFA Global Markets 2016 is a central trading platform for buyers and sellers, exclusively for professional visitors, bringing together suppliers, component manufacturers, OEMs and ODMs with potential customers and partners in the CE and home appliances industries.
Over 300 exhibitors, including those from China, Denmark, Germany, France, Japan, Korea, Austria, Poland, Slovenia, Taiwan and Turkey, showcased their latest products and services in the exhibition space. with an area of 10,000sqm, including companies such as LG Electronics and Zerotech, a leading drone manufacturer.
To make it easier for visitors to access the fair, IFA - as part of IFA Global Markets - offered travel along various routes, as well as a free brunch. IFA buses departed from the exhibition grounds and Tegel Airport to selected hotels in Berlin.
The IFA "trade guest" ticket gave access to IFA Global Markets, which opened on September 4-6 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and on September 7 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Trade visitors who wanted to participate only IFA Global Markets, could register free of charge, online in advance or on-site.

Smart Home: New Exhibition
More than 40 exhibitors from 15 countries presented their latest products, services and solutions for the smart home in the new 3,000sqm exhibition space in Hall 6.2. In addition, smart home technologies were represented by 150 partners, including the world's most important brands and major exhibitors.
IFA Summit: It's all about the future
With the slogan "Exploring the Digital Society", Experts showed the latest achievements in the field of artificial intelligence, robotics, virtual reality at the IFA Summit (September 5 and 6) - in other words, a smart and intelligent network is the world of today and tomorrow.
The IFA Summit took place at the CityCube in Berlin on September 5, 2016. It was opened by Axelle Lemaire, Minister of State for Digital Development in France.
Market in Germany in the first half of the year
The consumer electronics sector closed the first half of 2016 with a decline of 2.3 percent and significantly improved its result in the first quarter (-6.6%). In electronics, in the period from January to June 2016, sales of televisions increased significantly. The 4.1 percent increase (EUR 1.9 billion and 3.3 million units) is a result closely related to the Euro 2016 football championship.
Positive results were observed for both large and small electrical appliances. Large electronic appliances recorded a 3.7 percent increase in the first half, while small electronic appliances saw sales increase of 3.8 percent. "IFA provides impetus for national and international markets. In 2016, we expect stable earnings at last year's level for consumer electronics products. With regard to household appliances, IFA will continue to support the positive trend in purchasing large and small electronic devices," said Hans-Joachim Kamp, Chairman of IFA, organizer of GFU Consumer & Home Electronics GmbH. "Pioneering, interesting trends, developments and innovations have always been the focus at IFA. The event remains a pioneer in successful business development, convincing with the products it presents," added Kamp.
IFA TecWatch
More than 70 start-ups and 100 companies, research institutions, universities and associations showed the future direction of technology at IFA 2016. In the 3,000 sq m Exhibition Hall 11.1, IFA TecWatch organized an "exchange of ideas" for the markets of tomorrow, presenting innovations and the latest product solutions from all areas of consumer and home electronics. The TecWatch Forum enriched the exhibition with fascinating lectures, panel discussions, and presentations.
Young entrepreneurs have a permanent place in the IFA TecWatch Hall. For the third time, the Bundesverband Deutsche Startups e.V.is, in close collaboration with the IFA organizers, organized five exciting thematic days, the so-called "Startup Days." Each of the five days was dedicated to groups of young entrepreneurs presenting their product ideas.
