Hotels in Florida, Hawaii, and New York have installed RFID technology to prevent theft of towels, robes, bed linens, and other accessories, reports The USA Today.

The manufacturer Linen Technology Tracking LLC, headquartered in Miami (USA), has implemented RFID chips that can be washed in three hotels - in Honolulu, Miami, and Manhattan. The system allows you to track the location towels, robes, and sheets. A Honolulu hotel has reduced thefts at its pool from 4,000 a month to 750 since installing the devices last summer. The technology tracks each item using radio frequency identification. Towels, robes, and linens are scanned and tracked as they move to and from laundry rooms, when they are folded and unfolded from lockers, as they pass through various checkpoints, and even in pools and beach cabanas.

Hotels looking to secure their assets will have to keep thousands of RFID-enabled towels, robes, and other accessories on hand.
