Tibbo Technology has announced a new addition to its line of BASIC-programmable modules: the EM500 "MiniMo" device. Taking up only 6.5 x 18.5 mm of board space, the EM500 features an innovative "vertical layered" design and an RJ45-compatible width and height, allowing it to fit directly behind a standard RJ45 LED/magnetic connector.

The new EM500 module is the first in a new family of affordable programmable modules that breaks away from the bigger-is-better paradigm. Nicknamed Minimo for the family's new attempt to provide everything needed for a smart grid with edge-enabled hardware. Since not all projects require features like a flash drive or RTC, they can be connected externally as needed.

By allowing the EM500 to be paired with a standard RJ45 connector, Tibbo marks a shift in the Minimo family—a return to basics. By not forcing our customers to pair the EM500 with an RJ45 module, Tibbo saves them money while allowing greater freedom of choice. There are literally thousands of suitable RJ connectors on the market—at very low prices and with modern content—and each customer is free to choose the connector that best suits their specifications and budget, said Dmitry Slepov, Managing Director of Tibbo Technologies.

Dual LED control function—a space- and budget-saving innovation. In the past, Tibbo devices relied on two pairs of LED indicators—one pair for device status and one for connection status. The EM500 uses a single pair of LEDs (standard on many RJ45 modules) for both purposes. Module status is displayed using the traditional flashing LEDs common to all Tibbo devices, while connection status is indicated by the LED brightness.

In the near future, the EM500 will also support Wi-Fi connectivity (requires the GA1000 expansion board), as well as connection of an external LCD panel, keyboard, and flash drive.

The new EM500 is one of Tibbo's most competitive products in terms of price and performance.
